Woodridge North State School’s analysis of systemic and school-based data is used to reflect on and guide all decisions in relation to teaching, learning and assessment to meet the needs of our students. It is also used to inform and enact our priorities.We take a whole school approach to literacy, numeracy and Information and Communication Technology (ICT), offering professional development for all teachers in literacy, numeracy and ICT workshops throughout the year.
Student support services give extra support to students who have English as a Second Language; indigenous students; those who are gifted and talented; those who have learning support or social and emotional well-being needs; and students with disabilities.
Our curriculum offerings and design reflect the intent of the Queensland Assessment and Reporting Framework (QCAR), Essential Learnings and the learning areas of the Australian Curriculum as they are released.
The key learning Aareas include:
English, Mathematics, Science, History, Studies of Society and Environment (SOSE), Health and Pysical Education (HPE), Performing & Visual Arts, Technology & ICT and Language Other Than English (LOTE).
Across the school we have a two hour intensive literacy block and a two hour intensive Maths block 4 days per week. During this time the teachers engage the students by modelling, guiding and allowing independent practice of the content in the curriculum using whole class and small group teaching. This is supported by intervention both within the classroom and withdrawal by support teachers and teacher aides.
Planning is guided by curriculum documents and the analysis of gathered data to inform teaching practice to meet student learning needs. The school overview of units of work utilise C2C units supplemented by other curriculum resources for each year level using the Australian Curriculum content and achievement standards. In Science the Primary Connections program is implemented and aligns with the implementation of the Australian Curriculum in Science. History is also aligned with the Australian Curriculum. SOSE, HPE, Performing & Visual Arts, Technology & ICT and LOTE our school is following the QCAR and Essential Learnings framework. In Prep the Australian Curriculum content and achievement standards guide the development of work units.
